Douglas Elms

Doug Elms is an expert in behavioral threat assessment and management, executive protection, in keeping people safe, and protecting clients’ brands.

Doug is sought-after as a security consultant because of his very unique and multifaceted career as a law enforcement officer, executive protection agent, leader of global corporate security, and as a behavioral threat assessment and management expert. 

As a police officer, Doug worked the mean streets of “The Most Dangerous Small City in America” where he managed thousands of violent crime investigations and arrests, gained extraordinary experience in understanding violent behavior, protective intelligence, and in dignitary protection during Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign. Doug survived multiple deadly encounters including being wounded during a gun fight while arresting four armed robbers by himself. 

At the world’s largest company, Doug was personally responsible for the protection of three CEO’s and executives.  Doug has designed estate security for at-risk persons and assessed business and security risks to the global enterprise. 

Before retiring from a successful 24 year career with Walmart, Doug led business segments with over $1 billion in annual sales, and led or contributed to game changing business initiatives including $4 Generics, Walmart on Campus, Walmart Pay, and the opening of Walmart stores throughout Asia. 

Doug is a graduate of the highly regarded Executive Protection Institute, maintains designations in Lean, Six Sigma, and Project Management, is active in the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, is a Certified Institutional Protection Manager through the International Foundation for Cultural Property Protection, and regularly participates in FBI’s InfraGard briefings.

Monte Mills

Montes valiant 12 years of military service as a Combat MP in the United States Army included over 400 combat missions, serving in major combat operations: Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom as well as Operation Nobel Eagle protecting top secret military locations in combat hazardous zones, and protection details of United States Dignitaries and Ambassadors.

Tim Keck

Tim D. Keck is a best-selling author, a top-rated speaker, and a court-certified expert on threat management. He has taught thousands of people how to stay safe even under the most difficult of circumstances.

Formerly, Tim was a career police officer and SWAT leader who rose through the ranks to Chief of Police. He has testified before a Congressional committee, provided VIP protection to celebrities, and spearheaded a multi-national undercover investigation.

Tim has been quoted in publications from Newsweek to The New York Times and has made several appearances on national television.

As a speaker, Tim’s presentations are full of both wit and wisdom. He uses improvisational humor and true stories to illustrate learnings that can be put to use immediately.

In his previous career, Chief Keck’s work was recognized by several federal agencies including the Drug Enforcement Agency and Department of Homeland Security. Steve Dozier

Steve Dozier is a graduate of Arkansas State University, the FBI National Academy, and the FBI’s National Executive Institute. Steve has dedicated over forty years of his life to leading and guiding others in safety and security. He spent twenty-seven years serving the Arkansas State Police, being appointed as Colonel and Executive Director by Governor Mike Huckabee and Governor Mike Beebe. They were confident in his leadership and experience in protecting people and assets in both the public and private sectors.

Steve also has a wealth of experience and knowledge in corporate security programs, as he led the Global Security team for Walmart Corporate for over ten years. In addition to his impressive work with the FBI, State Police, and Corporate Security, he recently headed a private security detail at a high net-worth family office.

Steve’s expertise encompasses the physical security of facilities, continuity of business operations during periods of disruption, and protection programs designed for the safety of people. Today, Steve is a Senior Consultant with SafeHaven Security Group and is using his expertise to protect clients and is also available to train and mentor security officers and leaders.

Steve and his wife, Shelley, have two children, Jennifer (Matt) and Matthew (Liz), and three grandchildren.

Michael Johnson

Mike Johnson is a graduate of the FBI National Academy with an emphasis in Behavioral Sciences and has spent over three decades leading law enforcement criminal investigations, undercover narcotics teams, patrol, SWAT, and previously, in the Unites States Military leading criminal investigations. 

Mike retired as a Lieutenant in his agency’s Command Staff, has successfully lead people for over 30 years, and is one of the most genuine people you will ever meet.

The United States Air Force formed Mike’s early experiences including service in Operation Desert Storm, time as a Criminal Investigator, and membership in the Joint Drug Enforcement Team (AFOSI) and Anti-Terrorism Teams.

Mike continued to serve and protect people, dedicating twenty-eight years to leadership roles in most every aspect of the civilian law profession.  Starting on the streets as a Patrol Officer, then in undercover Narcotics, and later as a supervisor over the Drug Task Force and an assignment to the Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force.  Because of Mike’s leadership, he was promoted to Lieutenant serving as Patrol Watch Commander and as Assistant Commander over the Criminal Investigation Division.  Mike’s broad experience over the years includes SWAT, Crisis Negotiations, Public Information, Defensive Tactics, and as a Certified Law Enforcement Instructor.

Mike earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration (Magna Cum Laude) and is a Graduate from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA.

Mike lives in northwest Arkansas with his wife Becky. He has four grown daughters, several grandchildren, and loves to fish and motorcycle.

Ryan Rana

Dr. Rana is a PhD. level mental health psychotherapist.  Ryan’s PhD training is in Systems theory, an approach to understanding and changing behavior based on understanding context. Ryan is a civilian contractor with the US Army, US Marine Corps, and US Air Force. He regularly conducts training with military and first responder groups and individuals. 

Ryan was formerly a university faculty member teaching Systemic psychotherapies – until starting and running his own business, a counseling practice called The Joshua Center.

Ryan travels regularly and speaks as an ICEEFT trainer (International center for Emotionally Focused Therapy) where Ryan teaches the science behind conflict and trains psychologists and therapists to effectively navigate high conflict situations.

Pat Walsh

Pat has over forty years of experience in progressively higher-level assignments in the private sector. He was the Vice President & Chief Security Officer for a privately held, global investment banking and financial services firm for over sixteen years. In this role, Pat was
responsible for developing and implementing an enterprise-wide risk management program that addressed issues such as executive protection, physical security, electronic security systems, travel safety & security for international travelers, workplace violence prevention and active shooter response programs. In addition, he successfully guided the firm through a long-term attack by animal rights extremists.

Prior to this assignment, Pat served with FedEx for twenty-five years in positions such as Senior Manager of International Security, Senior Manager of Corporate Security and Senior Manager – Management Preceptor. He was responsible for the development and implementation of FedEx’s proprietary security officer and executive protection programs as well as serving on the team that developed a comprehensive workplace violence prevention program.

Pat also has over eighteen years’ in the public sector as a certified law enforcement officer with the Shelby County (TN) and Pulaski County (AR) Sheriffs’ Offices as a reserve officer. As a law enforcement officer, he was a certified Police Firearms Instructor, certified Range Safety Officer and successfully completed training programs for patrol carbine and SWAT operations. He achieved the rank of Captain with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and held positions in the Civil, Detective, Training and Fugitive divisions.

Pat has a Master of Science Degree and a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He also holds certifications as a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) with ASIS International and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. Michael Roche

Michael Roche is a former Special Agent with the United States Secret Service, an author, and a university adjunct instructor. He uses his ample experience protecting presidents and dignitaries to help keep you safe.

Mike began his career at the Little Rock, AR Police Department where he was twice named SERTOMA Officer of the Year. After a brief stint with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Mike was recruited to the Secret Service and became the intelligence liaison with CIA and FBI. He was humbled to serve as a Team Leader at the Ground Zero recovery site.

Mike served on multiple Dignitary protection details and conducted numerous Presidential protective intelligence assessments. In addition, he taught a Behavioral Threat Assessment of Mass Killers university course and authored Mass Killers – How you can identify workplace, school, or public killers before they strike.

Mike resides in Florida and enjoys watching the sunrises and sunsets with his bride of forty years.

Michael McQuerrey

Michael is a veteran of three decades of crime-fighting, retiring from law enforcement as Chief Deputy. During his law enforcement career, Chief McQuerrey worked his way up through the ranks, serving in many capacities including Patrol Officer, K-9 Handler/Supervisor, Department Trainer, and Commander of a Multi-Jurisdictional Federal Violent Crime Task Force. 

Michael was instrumental in multiple violent criminal enterprises and gangs being dismantled.  The development of practical, continuing training programs enabled the core skills of fellow officers to increase their competencies to better serve their communities. 

Michael was honored to be selected to attend, and graduate from, the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy (FBINA) in Quantico, VA. The FBINA involves 11 weeks of advanced investigative, management, and fitness training, and is only offered to selected officers with proven records as professionals within their agencies. During his FBINA training, Michael acquired graduate credits from the University of Virginia.  He is an Honor Graduate of the Arkansas School of Law Enforcement Supervision, Federal Driver Training Instructor, and Federal Counter Drug Investigation Course.

Michael earned his MBA from Texas A&M Texarkana, and Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies from Oklahoma City University. 

Michael is married to Sandy; they have four adult children and three grandchildren.

Ronnie Jackson

Ronnie is an enthusiastic and passionate leader with over 30 years hospitality management experience. His background in large-scale operations is an asset for our clients.

Ronnie accepted the position of Director of Guest Services with The Capital Hotel which lasted 25 years where he worked both front and back of the house. Through his leadership and the teamwork of others, the Capital Hotel remained a AAA Four Diamond hotel and The Capital Hotel was on both Conde’ Nast Best Places and Southern Living Magazine places to stay due to Ronnie’s excellent leadership. He also worked alongside the Security Team to make sure guests, hotel assets, and staff were safe.

Ronnie joins Safehaven Security Group as Site Supervisor for the reimagined Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. He is a Certified Institutional Protection Manager through the International Foundation for Cultural Property Protection.

Ronnie is married to his wife Diedra for 34 years and they have two adult sons, a daughter in law and his granddaughter Journei, who is his pride and joy. Ronnie enjoys spending time traveling with his family, cycling, and fishing.

Gary Plank

Gary retired from the Nebraska State Patrol after serving the citizens of the State for 28 years – including 24 years in the Investigative Services Division as a criminal investigator and the last 17 years as the State’s only behavior profiler. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Arts degree in Mental Health Counseling, both from Chadron (Nebraska) State College.


As one of only 34 graduates of the FBI’s National Center for the Analysis of Violent Crime Police Fellowship Program, Gary received 11 months of intensive training in behavior profiling and studied under FBI profiling pioneers such as Roy Hazelwood and John Douglas. As part of an elite international class of only seven members, he was able to participate in developing profiles of offenders from around the world. He has also attended the Advanced Threat Management Academy developed by the Gavin de Becker Agency in California.
Gary has presented extensively on threat assessment, campus safety, workplace violence, school violence, stalking, criminal sexuality, and homicide issues. During his tenure with the State Patrol, he developed and managed the State’s threat assessment response for high-ranking government officials and celebrities and implemented the State’s Sex Offender Registry and Cold Case Squad.

His research activities have included collaboration on FBI studies of sex offenders, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation stalking research, and research on threats with the University of Nebraska – Lincoln’s Law/Psychology Department. He served on the University of Nebraska – Lincoln’s Insider Threat Expert Panel for ManTech Security & Mission Assurance Corporation on a U.S. Department of Defense contract. His expertise in investigating sex offenders earned him appointments from two Nebraska governors on the Governor’s Work Group on the Management of Sex Offenders.

Gary’s threat assessment work has been published in nationally recognized peer review journals and presented at national threat assessment conferences. His publications include co-authoring the chapter “Evaluation of Anonymous Threats” in the French Canadian-published Psychology of Criminal Investigations: The Research of the Truth.
As a member of the faculty at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln, Nebraska, Gary helped to develop the Masters of Forensic Science Program, where he headed the Investigative and Behavioral Science Tracks.
Gary has dedicated his life to protecting people from around the world and works with corporate, education, law enforcement, and church security professionals to keep them and their stakeholders safe.

Steve Spurlock

Steve Spurlock has two decades of experience in law enforcement, security, and emergency management. His expertise has landed him assignments ranging from counter-terrorism liaison, aviation security, custody operations and workplace violence prevention in the public sector to executive protection and active assailant survival instruction in the private sector.

Steve retired from public law enforcement in 2022 as a manager with a law enforcement agency in Santa Barbara, CA, where he spent most of his career. Following his retirement, Steve transitioned to security consulting in response to the growing demand for quality security expertise in the private sector.

Steve’s experience with enterprise security risk management, workplace violence prevention, active shooter response and security program management, positions him to meet the unique demands of any size organization. He is a certified active shooter response tactics instructor, arrest control and defensive tactics instructor, as well as being an Airport Certified Employee with the American Association of Airport Executives.

Steve’s passion for law enforcement and public safety is shown through his dedicated career of protecting people. In 2024 Steve joined SafeHaven Security Group as a consultant and is utilizing his extensive security knowledge to better serve clients and continue his life work of keeping people safe.

Gene Page

Gene has over 34 years of experience in Executive Protection, Law Enforcement and Military. While serving on the AR State Police Governor’s Protection Detail, Gene protected an at-risk elected Governor. While serving in corporate America, Gene protected at-risk corporate executives including the CEO and other executives for Walmart, the world’s largest company. Gene was also selected to lead investigations for Bass Pro Shops.

He has extensive international Executive Protection assignments inside Argentina, Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Japan, Mexico, South Africa, Switzerland, Spain, Turkey and United Kingdom. Gene has provided executive protection services in the corporate, entertainment and private sector.

He is a certified law enforcement instructor, firearms instructor, and has experience as a Drill Instructor at the Arkansas State Police Academy. He has served as a law enforcement officer holding positions in SWAT, Hostage Negotiations Team, Criminal Investigations and Public Affairs. Gene possesses a degree in Criminal Justice and served in both the United States Marine Corps, as a member of Fleet Antiterrorist Security Team (FAST CO.) and the U.S. Army.

Gene now leads estate security, executive protection, and other professional protective services nationwide for SafeHaven Security Group, LLC.

William Gage

William “Bill” Gage served as a United States Secret Service Special Agent for 12 years, where receiving numerous awards for protective and investigative excellence. Protecting the President, Vice President, and others, Bill was an integral member during thousands of missions in the US and around the world including extremely high-threat missions to Iraq, Afghanistan, and Israel.

As Team Leader for the elite Counter Assault Team (CAT) and Lead Tactical Advance Agent for numerous National Special Security Events (NSSEs), Bill was responsible for focusing on active shooter response, threat suppression, and planning at the White House and other locations visited by the President, Vice-President, and their families. Bill served on two U.S. Congressional Sub-committees related to continuity of operations planning (COOP) for the President and Vice-President.
 
Bill has consulted with Fortune 50 companies on security assessments and is a certified instructor for ALERRT Active Shooter, a FLETC Use of Force Instructor, AXON/TASER, de-escalation, and in-service police academies. Bill recently partnered with a large financial industry consortium to train thousands of financial institutions. Most recently Bill has served in local law enforcement and now as a consultant for SafeHaven Security Group.

Bill has appeared on CNN, CSPAN, the Washington Post, and several national podcasts, Bill holds a bachelor’s from the Virginia Military Institute and a master’s from Boston University.

Mike East

Prior to being appointed by the President of the United States as a United States Marshal, Mike spent 28.5 years as a sworn Special Agent with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and worked a wide range of crimes including Homicide, Corruption, State and Federal Narcotics Trafficking, Embezzlements, and many others. He worked closely with the U.S. Secret Service on numerous Dignitary Protection Details; and has planned and coordinated the security for 3 Governor’s Inaugurations, as well as the 100th Anniversary of Flight in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina in 2003. Mike worked closely with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and spent 20 years training local, state, and federal law enforcement officers in Crisis Negotiation and served on the NC SBI’s Crisis Negotiation Team for many years including 3 years as the Team’s Leader.

Mike is a recipient of the Long Leaf Pine Award given to North Carolinians who have made a difference in the lives of fellow North Carolinians and have represented the state.

After retiring from the NC SBI, Mike helped launch the Fraud & Forensics Group at Cherry Bekaert, one of the nation’s largest certified public accounting firms. In that capacity, Mike worked with public and private companies, and government agencies who lost assets due to internal or external thefts. Mike has spent many years teaching companies how to enhance their internal controls, how to handle and investigate these types of situations internally, and how to recover assets.

Mike also served in the United States Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of North Carolina where he was assigned to work the financial aspects of large international drug organizations in the Organized Crime and Drug Task Force (OCDETF) Section. Mike worked closely with the FBI, ATF, DEA, IRS-CID, Homeland Security, and many local and state agencies on these types of investigations.

From June 2019 until December 2022, Mike was Presidentially appointed and confirmed by the United States Senate to serve as the United States Marshal for the Eastern District of North Carolina. In that capacity, he supervised all USMS Operations in Eastern North Carolina to include Judicial Security, Prisoner Transport, Enforcement Operations, Asset Forfeiture, and Sex Offender Compliance.

Since early 2023, Mike has worked as a consultant for large law firms, corporate clients, and CRISIS24 across the country. In that capacity he has conducted forensic financial investigations, internal investigations, and executive protection.

Mike is a sought-after speaker and regularly teaches at the Master of Accounting Programs in Virginia Tech, Elon University, and several others. He is also a guest lecturer at conferences for the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants. Mike teaches in the Homicide Block of the NC SBI’s yearly academy classes; and he also conducts case presentations and trainings for both the NC SBI and the FBI’s Crisis Negotiation Teams in North Carolina.

In 2023, Mike joined SafeHaven Security Group, LLC, to utilize his expertise in keeping people safe and protecting their brands.

Dan Carney

As a New York City Police Officer, Dan patrolled Times Square, Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building, the South Bronx, and Midtown Manhattan, keeping tens of thousands of people safe at significant events you may have even watched on television!

While attending college, and while in the NYPD, Dan was also an active Marine Corps / Reserve Sergeant and assigned to a scout/sniper platoon.

After moving from the NYPD to the Freeport Police Department, Dan became their Senior Firearms and Tactics Instructor and because of his incredible experience was promoted to Detective where he primarily worked with gangs, narcotics, and domestic violence.

For over 32 years, Dan has protected people. Today, Dan is a Consultant and Divisional Security Operations Manager for SafeHaven Security Group where he guides private corporations in how to keep their people safe from a variety of risks including disgruntled employees, insider threats, and the threat of active shooters and targeted violence.

Shawn Mills

Shawn brings a unique, analytical and pragmatic approach to protecting your people and your brand. With a solid foundation in law enforcement and a decade-long tenure as a safety consultant, Shawn brings extensive expertise in assessing and mitigating risks across various environments.

As a security and safety consultant, Shawn currently works with major league sports teams providing drug testing programs and life safety to athletes across the country.

Prior to becoming a consultant, Shawn served in security supervisor roles where he managed safety programs, conducted audits, and optimized operations efficiency. He also developed and implemented comprehensive safety programs that focused on employee awareness and compliance standards, such as with OSHA regulations and ISNetworld standards. Through his work in audits and assessments, he has been successful in helping clients enhance their safety protocols, reduce the number of incidents, and enhance employee awareness.

As a consultant for SafeHaven Security Group, Shawn works with clients on safety training programs, compliance standards, vulnerability assessments, and background investigations. Shawn is also skilled in behavioral threat assessment and management, crisis management and corporate drug testing programs.

Shawn resides in Greely, CO. His hobbies include ranching and the rodeo, where he has over 20 years of professional rodeo experience.

Mike Ruggiero

Detective Sergeant Mike Ruggiero has over 35 years of experience in law enforcement. Much of his career was spent with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Orlando, Florida. His primary areas of expertise included investigating major cases such as narcotics, sex crimes, internal investigations, robbery, and homicide. During that time, Mike developed a unique skillset to help him determine when and how people were being forthcoming, were omitting, or were fabricating information. He now uses those skills and experience to provide training on Detecting Deception and Interview and Interrogation across the U.S. to police detectives, private investigators, and Human Resource professionals.

In addition to his decades of experience, Mike also has a BA in Criminal Justice. He is the founder of The Police Training Institute and author of “Uncover the Truth-Unlocking the Skills of Body Language and Statement Analysis.” Mike is an in-demand speaker, adjunct instructor for the Public Agency Training Council and instructs sworn and corporate investigators across the US.

Mike resides in Orlando, Florida.

Joey Everhart

Joey Everhart is a retired Fire Captain/Paramedic with 20 years of experience in the fire service. Joey has also spent time in law enforcement as a SWAT Paramedic and ERDI Dive Rescue specialist. He is a certified HazMat Specialist and also holds technician level certificates in confined space, swift water, trench, high and low angle rope rescue, structural collapse and swift water. Joey has taken classes all over the country from the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg Maryland to the NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View California.

Joey has dedicated his life to the service of his community. Joey started out his career at the age of 18 as a volunteer firefighter. At the age of 22 he was hired as a full time fireman/EMT. Joey continued his volunteer service over the years and rose to the rank of Fire Chief managing a department of 15-20 members. In his full time career Joey strived to further his education in all areas fire related. Joey promoted to the rank of Captain in 2013 and has spent time on multiple fire companies including the cities heavy rescue unit. In 2018 Joey took a position in the training division where he developed multiple training programs which provided vital development for the departments members. Joey also ran multiple fire academies which trained entry level firefighters for agencies region wide. In 2019 Joey was asked to serve as interim Batallion Chief. Joey served in this role for 6 months while the vacancies were being filled. Joey has also served on regional and statewide committees including the Arkansas WMD committee which helped disperse federal funds and equipment to departments in the state, thereby increasing the state’s readiness for HazMat and WMD incidents.

Joey’s time in the fire service and in law enforcement provides a unique perspective to clients. Joey has technical knowledge and an eye for safety that can help clients provide a safe and secure work environment for their employees.

Joey lives in Northwest Arkansas with his wife Desiree and son Calvin. Joey attends church regularly and serves as a Deacon to his congregation. He also enjoys spending time outdoors with his family hiking, fishing and hunting in the Ozarks.

James Atchley

James Atchley has over two decades of protecting people, retiring from law enforcement as a Captain in his agency’s Command Staff. During his law enforcement career, James served in many capacities including Patrol, Undercover Narcotics, Special Operations, Criminal Investigations, and SWAT.

During his tenure, he stepped into leadership roles in every aspect of the civilian law profession. He served as Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division, Services Division, and ultimately the Operations Division. On the SWAT team for 21 years, he managed high-risk situations and was promoted from the entry team to the Commanders’ position.

He is a certified Law Enforcement Instructor and has experience in surveillance operations, operations planning, and SWAT tactics. James earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice at Texas A&M University.

James currently lives in southwest Arkansas with his wife Rachel. He has three children and enjoys operating a food truck in his off time.

Terrence Brown

Terrence is an experienced security professional with over two decades of protecting others through his versatile career. Having served in the U.S. Air Force, as a Parole Officer, Corrections Corporal, Deputy Court Marshal, and Manager of Court Security he has gained a unique skill set in combat training, weapons, special operations, and executive protection.

As a U.S. Air Force Police Officer, he was stationed at multiple Air Force bases throughout the United States serving roles as a Security Forces Team Leader and a Fire Team Leader.

Terrence was selected as a member of the security team for President Obama during a visit to Whiteman Air Force Base in Kansas City. He worked with the United States Secret Service to ensure no threats to the President.

At Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, he was part of a joint task force that targeted gang violence in the region. He also gained experience as a Fire Team Leader when he oversaw asset protection of the BS2 bomber, a special aircraft that carries nuclear bombs and weapons for missions.

Before his time in the U.S. Air Force, Terrence served the Kansas Department of Corrections in Leavenworth as a Certified Corrections Corporal and a Special Operations Response Team Sniper. He oversaw executive protection for judges at the Missouri Court of Appeals and conducted Bailiff duties at Family Court in Kansas City.

Terrence resides in Little Rock with his wife and son. His hobbies include coaching basketball, cross country, mentoring youth, serving in church, and traveling.
